Property-tax exemptions, county by county
Homestead, senior, veteran and disability exemptions: who qualifies, the filing deadline, where to file, what to bring, and how long you have to appeal. Every fact links to an official source.
Choose your state
Florida
In Florida you apply for exemptions with your county property appraiser. The basic deadline is March 1, and you must be eligible as of January 1.
Georgia
In Georgia you apply for homestead exemptions with the county tax commissioner (or the tax assessor in some counties). Many counties offer local exemptions larger than the state's.
Texas
Texas has no state property tax. Exemptions are applied for at the appraisal district in the county where the home is located, and the chief appraiser decides who qualifies.
How this site works
- Official sources only. Facts come from state revenue departments and county appraisal offices, never from blogs.
- Dated. Each source shows the date we last checked it.
- Gaps marked. If we couldn't verify something, the page says Not verified yet instead of guessing.
Coverage today: Texas, Florida and Georgia, starting with the five most populous counties in each (U.S. Census Bureau 2024 estimates). More counties to come.
